Kairos Prison Ministry

Ministry Area: Kairos Prison Ministry
Time Commitment: As needed
Coordinator: Gary Van De Kieft / Lydia Byfield

The mission of Kairos is to bring Christ's love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their families, and to those who work with them, and to assist in the transition of becoming a productive citizen.

Well organized and well-trained volunteer teams of men and women present an introductory 4-day weekend, described as a short course in Christianity. This interdenominational team of volunteers – both clergy and laypersons – works in cooperation with the Chaplain who carefully selects up to 42 inmates to attend.  A well-organized follow-up program is part of this ministry.

Ways to get involved:

  • serving on an inside team – we need both ordained clergy and laypeople

  • serving on a music team

  • serving on an outside team

  • sponsoring an inmate or buying a meal ticket for an inmate

  • baking cookies

  • writing letters for the weekend

  • providing posters or placemats

  • signing of prayers support for upcoming weekneds

  • attending a closing ceremony

  • Kairos Outside (for adult female loved ones)
